Volunteers help stop crime, save lives

N.B. Crime Stoppers' commitment to community was extended in 2009 to include the promotion of blood donation by joining Canadian Blood Services' Partners for Life program. Since joining, N.B. Crime Stoppers members have donated a total of 415 units. This action-oriented group has a goal of 100 units of blood for 2012 of which they have already donated an impressive 60 units thus far.

Champion Paul Gallinger noted that the Crime Stoppers' theme for this year is 'Helping To Stop, Solve, and Prevent Crime - Together'. "It only makes sense to extend our support for a safer community by encouraging our members to donate blood and volunteer at blood donor clinics. A safe and secure blood supply is in everyone's best interest."

Are you a regular blood donor? Haven't donated in a while? Never donated? Since joining Partners For Life, N.B. Crime Stoppers has recruited 13 new donors and 22 “lapsed donors” (individuals who have donated in the past but had not for 18 months). Those donors donated a combined 70 units of blood. As well as getting more donations this year we would also like to recruit more new donors by inviting family and friends of N.B. Crime Stoppers to join our partnership with Canadian Blood Services.

Canadian Blood Services is trying to recruit 100,000 new donors by 2014.  That is a huge need, so they are asking all volunteers and partners to assist them in recruiting new donors from your family, friends and co-workers.  Starting on January 16, 2012 until March 31, 2012 they are running their “Each One, Bring One” campaign, they are asking all volunteers to recruit a new donor and send or bring them to a clinic.  Each volunteer can fill out a ballot and have their name submitted for a random draw for an E-Reader.  The ballots should be available at any of the clinic sites.

Make sure you register online before your next lifesaving blood donation to ensure it counts towards the N.B. Crime Stoppers' Partners for Life 100-donation goal for 2012 (you will need to enter our unique Partner ID: CRIM009877)
