This year marks the 25th anniversary of Crime Stoppers in New Brunswick. Since 1985, the program has helped solve over 7300 cases, assisted with the recovery of more than $7.4 million dollars worth in stolen property, and removed over $52 million dollars worth of illegal drugs from New Brunswick streets. The program has also helped to solve 11 murders in New Brunswick.
Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization based on a partnership between law enforcement agencies, the public, and the media. Its mandate is to guarantee anonymity to members of the public who want to provide police with information on unsolved crimes. Since 1985, Crime Stoppers volunteers have paid close to $700,000 dollars in awards to those who have provided information that has led to a crime being solved.
On October 15-17, 2010, over 200 delegates and representatives from law enforcement agencies will gather in Fredericton to attend meetings and receive training at the 25th Annual N.B. Crime Stoppers Training Conference being held at the Fredericton Inn. NB Crime Stoppers is pleased to announce that Gary Murphy, the President of Crime Stoppers International, will be a guest speaker at this event.
Gary Murphy has been involved with Crime Stoppers since 1985, when as a member of the RCMP, he was chosen to create a Crime Stoppers program for the Province of Manitoba. He spent the next two years organizing and administering this program, until May of 1987, when he left police work to begin a property management career in the private sector. Over the past 23 years, Gary has maintained his dedication to Crime Stoppers by remaining involved with Crime Stoppers programs in Manitoba and Ontario, as well as by serving on the Crime Stoppers International Board of Directors, lecturing and conducting Crime Stoppers workshops throughout Canada and internationally. In addition, Gary continues to be responsible for the development of several Provincial and National Crime Stoppers Corporate Partnerships. Currently, he is a member of the Business Relations Committee for the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association, Vice President of the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers and President of Crime Stoppers International.
